Arabica Coffee vs Robusta Coffee - The Differences

For most coffee drinkers, the origin or type of coffee that they’re drinking might not be given much consideration. The majority of coffee blends come from the Arabica coffee bean, which is a milder tasting bean with a caffeine content that is suitable for occasional coffee drinkers to frequent coffee drinkers.

However, there is another type of coffee bean known as the Robusta bean that has some benefits over its Arabica counterpart, and that’s why it’s included in my exfoliating Coffee Body Scrub.

  • Robusta coffee has a more bitter and burnt taste than Arabica coffee, which is why it is less popular for cafe coffee blends. Some blends will include a small percentage of Robusta beans for a stronger taste.
  • One of the reasons that Robusta beans have a stronger taste, is that they have a higher caffeine content than Arabica beans. Robusta coffee has almost double the percentage of caffeine than Arabica coffee, and while that’s not so good for taste it is very good for targeting skin conditions and signs of ageing.
  • Robusta beans also contain almost double the Chlorogenic Acid (CGA) content than Arabica beans, which is a powerful antioxidant and something that you definitely want included as part of your skincare regime. It’s also found in common foods like eggplant, peaches and prunes.
  • When Robusta coffee is used as part of an exfoliant, it can help to remove bacteria on the skin and increase blood flow circulation, which can reduce the appearance of stretch marks, signs of ageing and skin conditions. Buddy Scrub is one of the few coffee scrubs on the market to be using Robusta coffee grounds.

So why not harness the powerful properties of Robusta coffee with my all natural, cruelty free and vegan friendly Coffee Body Scrub!

Why Should You Put Oil On Your Skin?

@debiflue

For those of you trying to avoid oily skin and reduce the likelihood of getting oily clogged up pores, you might be wondering why I insist that you rub my oily goodness all over your body. Well, let me give you the information about my natural plant based oils that you might not be aware of, and you too will see that adding oil to your skincare regime is the way to go.

Coconut Oil

Coconut Oil hydrates your skin which can help to keep your skin cell connection strong and aim to reduce the appearance of wrinkles or sagging. Coconut oil will naturally clear away any dirt, grime, or dead skin cells. It also assists in soothing your skin irritations, prolonging your tan and reducing the signs of ageing. Features in: all of my body scrubs!

Grapeseed Oil

Grape seed oil provides a great source of Vitamin E which is important for keeping your skin well moisturised. Grape seed oil also has some antiseptic qualities which can help to reduce the likelihood of developing skin blemishes. Features in: all of my body scrubs!

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil is one of the oils most closely matched to the natural oil in the skin. Your skin produces wax esters which keep the skin hydrated and these wax esters diminish as you age. Jojoba oil produces these wax esters naturally and therefore gives your skin the much needed hydration that reduces with ageing. Basically, this means your skin will love absorbing this oil and it will help to restore the natural oil balance of your skin. Jojoba oil also contains essential vitamins A, D and E, as well as Omega 6 and 9 fatty acids. Features in: my Green Tea Body Scrub and Activated Charcoal Body Scrub.

Sweet Almond Oil

Sweet Almond Oil is a light oil that absorbs into the skin well. It is naturally high in Vitamin E, making it a great oil for use on your skin. As it absorbs into the skin it can help to dislodge oil and dirt, making it useful for reducing the likelihood of developing acne and skin blemishes. Features in: my Raw Cacao Body Scrub.

Vitamin E Oil

Vitamin E is a strong antioxidant that helps to target the signs of ageing. Vitamin E does this by smoothing skin and reducing the signs of wrinkles, hydrating skin to improve skin elasticity and rejuvenates dry skin. Features in: all of my body scrubs!

Essential Oils

Essential oils are not actually oils in the traditional sense. Essential oils are a natural oil that is extracted from plant or fruit sources and are 100% natural. Often fruit peels are cold pressed for their oil content, such as the orange essential oil in my Raw Cacao Body Scrub or the lime essential oil in my Green Tea Body Scrub. Other essential oils can be pressed from plant leaves, seeds or flowers, such as the peppermint essential oil in my Activated Charcoal Body Scrub. It often takes a large number of plant or fruit material to make one bottle of essential oil and the nutrients that are captured in the oil make them great for their skin benefits and aromatherapy properties.

Which Skin Type Are You?

Which skin type are you?

Cause I’m all about that skin, bout that skin...

One thing that everyone should know is what type of skin type they are. Knowing this information is important because it informs your decisions when purchasing skincare and cosmetic products, as well as what your skincare regime should be. Your skin type can change over time so it’s good to have a think about it every few years and see if you have noticed any differences in how your skin looks.

Skin type is often determined by a few different factors:

  • Water content
  • Oil content
  • Sensitivity

There are four common skin types, which each have unique signs so that you can determine which type applies to you:

Oily Skin – an overproduction of oil which can clog pores and encourage skin conditions

  • Shiny, thick complexion
  • Prone to blackheads, pimples and skin conditions such as acne
  • Enlarged pores

Recommendation – My Activated Charcoal Body Scrub.

I contain exfoliating ingredients to help wash away excess oil and grime. Activated charcoal and kaolin powder can absorb more than one hundred times their weight and can help to restore the natural balance of oil on your skin. Finally, jojoba oil can help to reduce the oily nature of your skin as it is the closest plant oil to your skin’s oil and does not leave a residue.

Dry Skin – an underproduction of oil which can leave skin flaky and irritated

  • Dull complexion
  • Flaky, red patches
  • Skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis
  • Itchiness
  • Less elasticity making wrinkles and dark circles more noticeable

Recommendation – My Raw Cacao Body Scrub

I help to target dry patches by gently exfoliating away dead or flakey skin. I can also help to address dry patches by removing any bacteria and hydrating the skin with nourishing plant based oils. Raw cacao powder is an antioxidant super house which can help to reduce the processes that cause free radicals and help to balance out the surface of your skin.

Combination Skin – a little bit oily in spots and a little bit dry in spots which can call for different products for different areas. Common oily spots can be the t-zone and the chin.

  • A combination of the signs seen with both oily and dry skin types
  • Visible pores
  • Blackheads and pimples only in specific areas

Recommendation – My Green Tea Body Scrub

I contain exfoliating ingredients to help softly scrub away dry skin and bacteria. The green tea powder aims to soothe and replenish skin, helping to soothe irritated areas. This scrub contains three nourishing oils, including jojoba and coconut oil, which combine to help hydrate dry skin and also help to balance out oily skin.

Normal Skin – The Goldilocks of skin types, not too oily and not too dry – it’s just right.

  • No sensitivity to cosmetic or skincare products
  • Rarely have imperfections or skin conditions
  • Even skin tone
  • Pores are not easily visible

Recommendation – All of my body scrubs!

Buddy Scrub aims to suit the masses and the combination of my many natural ingredients help to address issues that people can experience with their skin. Try me out for yourself…once you’ve had a taste of your ‘friend with benefits’ it will be hard to go back!
